She Solves – Angelina Arora

Episode

5

Angelina Arora is a 17 year old Scientist and Inventor turning ideas into global solutions – tackling the problem of single-use plastics by creating a new biodegradable plastic made completely from waste.

Angelina loves Science and for her Year 9 science project she wanted to do something meaningful that could actually make a difference to the world.

Concerned about the impact plastic was having on the environment she chose to research bio-plastics, – plastic materials made from renewable sources. After lots of experimenting and lots of failing – at dinner one night Angelina noticed the similarities between prawn shells and plastic. This was the beginning the idea for her award winning plastic-like material that decomposes 1.5 million times faster than conventional plastics, completely breaking down within 33 days.

Angelina shares with us her understanding of Flearning – that failing means learning – you must fail to learn, and that to keep making changes in the world our school subjects like STEM – science, technology, engineering, and maths can guide our future through innovation and help to see your ideas through to actual solutions.

Age is no barrier just an opportunity to do more – follow your dreams, your passions or anything you set your mind too.
