Perth student, Ella Smith, is a great example of what it means to be an Enterprising Girl. At the young age of 16, her love of tech and coding led her to launch her very own tech start-up, LuminK.
Ella has now been coding for three years – professionally for one of those. During that time she became heavily involved in Perth’s Women In Technology community, initially mentoring at a SheCodes Aus workshop for teens her own age.
“I spoke at the WITWA 2021 Conference primarily focusing on the tech industry’s engagement with young people encouraging more outreach,” Ella said.
The lead up to the launch of her own business “was crazy” and Ella soon discovered she could wear many hats. With encouragement from fellow females in her community she was able to launch successfully!
“LuminK is a website and app development business targeting female entrepreneurs,” Ella said.
“My slogan is female developers empowering female entrepreneurs. Personally I know that if I wanted a website or app built I would look for a female developer. As a female entrepreneur I feel as if they would be able to offer me a comfortable space to put my ideas out there and would be more relatable creating a positive environment to launch a startup.”
Ella identified a gap for both female entrepreneurs and developers in the industry and she believe creating the ability to pair up and help each other will help bridge both gaps.
“Having a digital presence in 2022 is the most crucial thing a company can do. It helps connect with people who would’ve never thought of you otherwise.
“For start-ups it is particularly important. Not only do we create websites and apps we purposefully construct them.”
LuminK offers a FREE discovery session where they define your goals, vision and purpose.
“These things make a business. Often these are overlooked but by understanding the company better, we can build a more effect presence. LuminK is all that and more!”
Where does LuminK come from?
“The word ‘Illuminate’ is our inspiration and base word. We want to illuminate minorities and females online. But we also just want to illuminate your business! And the K well, its my personal connection to the business. My middle name Cay and I’ve shortened it to a catchy K.”
